Wordless Wednesday #8

CUT 25 was a 750hp Lima-Hamilton LS-750 switcher. There were only 6 LS-750's built and all 6 were bought by Cincinnati Union Terminal Co. The 6 LS-750's handled all the switching duties at the terminal, mail & express facilities, and coach yard. CUT 25 was the last one built and was delivered in 1951. 1. There is a small outfit that makes a cast resin LS-1000 shell in HO scale. It's probably pretty close to the LS-750, maybe? Better than nothing.

  2. According to my copy of The Second Diesel Spotters Guide, the 750hp, 1000hp, and 1200hp units all used the same car body, so a 1000hp shell would work just fine. The prime mover was the only difference with the 750 and 800 having a 6 cyl and the 1000 & 1200 having an 8 cyl engine. The 800hp unit was slightly shorter and the radiator louver panel was shorter as well, but otherwise looked the same. Also, interesting trivia note: the LS-xxxx designation was a railfan invention for all the Lima-Hamilton switchers. LH's designation for the 750hp was A-3149.

I'll have to look into the cast resin shell. I was actually wondering if I could kitbash an S-2 or S-4. I'm sure the frame length is different, but I wonder by how much.
